Throggs Neck VAC is looking for volunteers to support us to provide quality care to our community.
Our volunteer selection process is as follows:
- Complete a digital application. Be sure to include an email and phone number for a reference and digitally sign the application. Applications are processed through Ridgewood VAC and must be submitted with all requested information.
- Operations will then review all applications to make sure they are complete.
- Once your application is reviewed, Operations will then conduct a sex offender and reference check plus any additional reviews.
- Once the application has been fully reviewed, we will send you an email letting you know the status of your application.
- If you are invited to join our corps and come to an orientation, all required training and documents must be submitted prior to the orientation date.
- Orientations are run by Operations and the Director of Training and the curriculum accommodates 10 new members at a time.
- Certified EMTs will be required to pass a test and show practical and lifting skills prior to moving into an EMT Trainee position.
- Members who successfully complete orientation will then be on probation for a minimum of 90 days.
- If you are an experienced EMT currently working full-time for an agency for at least one consecutive year, you may be eligible for advance standing once you are accepted as a member with a letter from your agency verifying your employment.

EMT/Crew Chief Candidates will also need additional documentation. The list and resources will be provided to you in anticipation of orientation completion. All members who will be on an ambulance must be able to lift at least 125lbs unassisted and up to at least 250 with a second person. CPR certification is required for all members outside of the Board of Directors. Classes provided upon clearance.

Our application process is as follows:
- Application is completed online.
- If student application is reviewed and accepted, student will be invited to an interview.
- Once student interviews, if the interview is successful, the parent(s)/guardian will be invited to an interview.
- After both interviews, our Youth Corps Director and team will approve, deny, or delay the student's application.
- If the student is approved, they will get an email inviting them to orientation, providing requirements, and including additional information on uniforms and other important matters.
- If the application is denied, a letter will be sent to the applicant with the status. The student is welcome to apply to Throggs Neck VAC upon reaching 18.
- If the application is delayed, the student will be asked to reply in 3, 6, or 12 months depending on the reason for the delay.
- Youth Corps members will meet online for 2 hours per month and participate in in-person events, training, and community service.
